Dr. Galbraith has more than eight years experience with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service as Soil Scientist and Range Conservationist. At Virginia Tech, his responsibilities include teaching soils and GIS and advising students and coaching the Soil Judging Team. He also conducts both basic and applied research in wetland soils, mine soils, and upland soils.
His research interests include wetland soils, soil survey and taxonomy, anthropogenic and urban soils, GIS, and hydropedology. Sponsors of his research have included the Department of Defense, USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, Virginia Department of Transportation, Powell River Project, Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Science Foundation, and Maryland Department of the Environment (US EPA funds).
He received his Ph.D. in Soil Science in 1997 from Cornell University. He received his B.S. in Range and Wildlife Management in 1976 and his M.S. in Range Science in 1983, both from Texas Tech.
