Description

The history and philosophy of agricultural education and the cooperative extension service along with the inter-relationship and the common heritage of the two is included. Leaders of both agencies, along with their philosophies, are discussed.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course students will be able to:

  1. Describe the influence of the Hatch Act on the development of Agricultural Education and the Cooperative Extension Service,
  2. List and discuss the Federal bills and laws that included Agricultural Education and the Cooperative Extension Service,
  3. Name five influential agricultural societies that were helpful in passing Federal legislation supporting Agricultural Education and Cooperative Extension,
  4. List important educational philosophers and describe how they influenced Agricultural Education and Cooperative Extension,
  5. List and describe the significant events in the history of both agencies,
  6. Write a personal philosophy of Agricultural Education and Cooperative Extension,
  7. Compare and contrast the youth organizations FFA and 4-H,
  8. Describe the teaching methods used by Agricultural Education and Cooperative Extension,
  9. Explain the role agricultural societies played in the development of both Agricultural Education and Cooperative Extension, and
  10. Explain the memorandums of understanding, which established the division of responsibility for both Agricultural Education and the Cooperative Extension Service.
