Description
Organizational design of the 4-H program and extension service, administrative planning, control and budgeting as well as marketing and resource development. Human resource management and recruitment in the 4-H program.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the course students will be able to:
- Describe the historical foundations of youth development in the United States.
- Explore relevant research and theories related to child and adolescent development.
- Be knowledgeable of youth development theories.
- Understand learning theories and their application in the design and evaluation of learning experiences.
- Describe the competencies and characteristics of a youth development professional.
- Differentiate between the roles of a manager and a leader.
- Understand why people and organizations resist change and be familiar with a process to institute meaningful change in organizations.
- Compare and contrast contemporary models of youth development organizations.
- Identify and examine critical aspects of youth program management, including programming, managing staff and volunteers, recruiting youth, staff development, risk management, marketing, budgeting, and program evaluation.
- Explain the value of diversity in youth programs and the importance of providing for special needs audiences.
- Discuss the importance of collaboration and how to facilitate a collaborative process.
- Develop a personal philosophy of youth development and youth program management.
- Apply concepts and principles of youth development and youth program management by analyzing real-life situations in youth organizations.
